ISAIAH 58

WHAT IS “ISAIAH 58”?

“Isaiah 58” is a confidential program of assistance of the Bukas-Loob sa Diyos Covenant Community of Newark District. Its thrust is to find ways and means to help members of the community in their time of extreme need.
This program of assistance stands on the foundation of the Community's obedience to God's Word found in Isaiah 58: 6-7 which states:

“This rather is the fasting I wish; releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke; sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own.”

WHAT KIND OF ASSISTANCE DOES IT PROVIDE ?

A. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

CATEGORY 1 consists of outright monetary assistance for purposes of hospita- lization, funeral expenses, prolonged jobless- ness, damage to property due to calamities, and other circumstances that lead to extreme financial needs. As a stopgap solution to an emergency situation, up to a maximum of $250 is given per meritorious case.

CATEGORY 2 addresses cases which are likewise considered urgent but require long term solutions other than stopgap measures. The amount of assistance is up to a maximum of $ 3,000 per meritorious case.

Unlike Category 1, certain conditions may be required of the beneficiaries, such as:
a) a pay-back plan
b) financial counseling and supervision
c) spiritual guidance

B. LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE

  1. Gainful employment directly or indirectly provided by other members
  2. Business referrals
  3. Productivity and/or livelihood seminars
  4. Financial consultation
  5. Resource and knowledge sharing

WHO CAN REQUEST FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE?

HOW IS A CATEGORY 2 REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE PROCESSED?

2. The Ministry/Apostolate Coordinator endorses the request to the Isaiah 58 ministry for evaluation. If approved by the Isaiah 58 ministry, the Treasurer releases the funds to the beneficiary.

3. The Treasury Ministry will monitor repayments.

WHAT IS THE MODE OF PAYMENT?

No repayment on the part of Category 1 beneficiaries is expected, except perhaps a voluntary donation or love offering that they may wish to give in the future to the Isaiah 58 fund when they are better placed financially.

In the case of Category 2 beneficiaries, no interest is charged on the amount received. However, they are strongly urged to reciprocate the goodwill extended to them by returning in full the amount received per pay-back plan, as agreed upon.
